Production Design for Independent Short Film · Hair and Makeup Design, SFX Makeup and Prosthetic Fabrication

01
AIDAN: Liberty Spikes and Studded Face
"When the Moon Wore My Face" (Daniel Shapiro, 2026).
Hair and makeup designed and executed by Phoebe Fischer.
Actor Aidan Coady.
For a surrealist club scene, we put over 30 extras into alternative, futuristic hair and makeup. The vision was architectural, textured, and reflective. We added dozens of steel spiked studs to Aidan's face using eyelash glue, then I created liberty spikes in his hair using a teasing comb, gel, and Got2Be Glued hairspray.

02
MALCOLM: Chrome Dust Stud Mask
"When the Moon Wore My Face" (Daniel Shapiro, 2026).
Makeup designed and executed by Phoebe Fischer.
Actor Malcolm Goodman.
For a surrealist club scene, we put over 30 extras into alternative, futuristic hair and makeup. The vision was architectural. Using chrome eyeshadow powder and adhesive silver studs, I created a shimmering mask on Malcolm that would catch the blue strobe lights of the club scene and create patterns and reflections.

03
MYLA: Studded Eyebrow and Hair tinsel
"When the Moon Wore My Face" (Daniel Shapiro, 2026).
Hair and makeup designed and executed by Phoebe Fischer.
Actor Myla Pitzer.
For a surrealist club scene, we put over 30 extras into alternative, futuristic hair and makeup. The vision was architectural, textured, and reflective. I used silver adhesive studs to create an outline around Myla's eyebrows to add textured reflections and redefine the focal points of her face, added silver tinsel to her hair to bring the light outwards, and kept the skin dewy and the lip grungy.

LUNAE
Daniel Shapiro's "When the Moon Wore My Face" featured 2 surrealist characters - the "moon creatures" -that came from a darkly alluring alternate realm accessed through a mirror. We wanted the makeup to look textured, cracking, layered, and powdery- more planetary than human. Unsettling, ethereally androgynous beauty.
Makeup and prosthetics designed by Phoebe Fischer and Kat Anstett.
Additional SFX Makeup Artists: Matilda Carrillo

01
Face Charts
We åbegan to conceptualize the SFX makeup look by creating face charts mapping the placement of prosthetics, color, and products.

02
Making Prosthetics
Using foam clay, liquid latex, and SFX gelatin, we created custom prosthetics on top of our 3-dimensional "moon head" to blend the gap between mask and human face.

03
Scar Wax & Liquid Latex Application
We shaped and applied secondary prosthetics made of scar wax and liquid latex directly onto the actors' faces to create a lunar texture on the surface of their skin.
The director originally requested that Speculum wear a monocle. We interpreted that idea by creating a large scar wax "crater around his eye.

04
Painting Lunae
Using cosmetic cream and alcohol-based paints, we painted the actors' faces to resemble the surface of the moon.

05
Painting Speculum
Using cosmetic cream and alcohol-based paints, we painted the actors' faces to resemble the surface of the moon.

06
Final Transformation
We added the moon heads to the actors and blended the attached prosthetics into the existing SFX makeup to create the illusion of a moon-faced creature.

“Joan Savvy's First Day on Earth” (2025)
Production Design for CAP Studios Short Film · Hair and Makeup Design and Styling

01
IRIS
"Joan Savvy's First Day on Earth" (Kiani Jimenez, 2025).
Hair designed and executed by Phoebe Fischer. Additional hairstyling by Isabel Nerpouni.
Makeup designed by Phoebe Fischer and Kat Anstett and executed by Kat Anstett.
Actor Dezerae Kennedy.
Iris's character exists in a whimsical universe where people possess unique magical abilities; Iris can talk to plants, and flowers grow from her hair. I wanted to capture the idea of organic growth within the design of her hair, so I braided individual wires into her hair and sculpted those braids into organic spirals that could shift and move with each scene.
Her makeup includes loose yellow eyeshadow pigment scattered like freckles to evoke pollen.

02
JOAN SAVVY: Bug Colector
Joan Savvy's First Day on Earth" (Kiani Jimenez, 2025).
Hair designed and executed by Phoebe Fischer.
Makeup designed by Phoebe Fischer and Kat Anstett and executed by Kat Anstett and Matilda Carrillo.
In this scene, reincarnating protagonist Joan Savvy is depicted in one of her past lives as a bug collector. Inspired by the whimsy and organic shapes of bugs and hairstyliing techniques of the 1920s, I used gel to create a spiral curl on Joan's forehead remniscent of antenna. Her makeup was inspired by a ladybug.

03
LACY
Joan Savvy's First Day on Earth" (Kiani Jimenez, 2025).
Hair designed and executed by Phoebe Fischer. Additional hairstyling by Isabel Nerpouni.
Makeup designed by Phoebe Fischer and Kat Anstett and executed by Phoebe Fischer.
Lacy was written as the perfect girl next door, romantic and doe-eyed, and I was inspired by the sweetheart/babydoll 1960s aesthetic when designing her character. I chose to give her a soft bouffant remniscent of Bridgette Bardot, and a 1960s double-winged eyeliner with pastel pink blush, a flushed glossy lip, and powder blue eyeshadow.

DORIS DOYLE
"A Fox in the Henhouse" (Pitzer & Thornton, 2026).
Hair by Phoebe Fischer.
Makeup by Isabel Nerpouni.
Actor Corrine Kelly.
The directors wanted Doris Doyle, the elderly protagonist, to have a Betty White inspired hairstyle to age her up. Corrine had naturally very long hair, so I used a curling iron and bobby pins to create pin curls for the illusion of short hair.
